Hey

Happy New Year!!!!

What's with the fortune wrapped in cookies?

I always thought "fortune cookies" were a part of Chinese custom with simple fortune messages.

As if the life is not already complex, even the stupid fortune cookies are becoming complex...
"Seek out the significance of your problem at this time. Try to understand." - What does that mean? I wonder who comes up with these...

A day at Qwest Field

After a long wait (of 4 seasons in Seattle), got finally two tickets for the last game of the regular season.

The game when Seahawks faced San Diego Chargers was probably not the best time to go as the chances of victory were less than half.

Nevertheless, it was an experience to remember for a long time:
  • Waiting in huge lines to get into the stadium
  • Getting a hot cheese pizza after 5 minute wait in the line and finishing it in 60 seconds before the cold windi could cool it down.
  • Getting seats near mid-field from where I could watch all the action live on the field, and not needing to look at the giant screen....
  • It was amazing that 1000s of small kids were there all dressed up in Seahawks colors..
  • Mixing up with Seattle fans in the next seats
  • Giving high fives each time Seahawks got a first-down
  • Jumping up and down on each of Seattle touchdown
  • Shouting constantly at San Diego offense
  • Nail-biting moments in last five minutes of the game: Can we hold onto the 17-13 lead??
  • Gasping after the last minute 37-yard touchdown of San Diego
  • Walking out of the stadium unable to believe what just happened

All in all it was a great experience...

Keeping fingers crossed on what will Seahawks do in Play-offs...

Last few weeks

It's been a while after I have blogged. Don't know what happened to all that interest from first two weeks after starting blogging.
Nevertheless, lot has happened in last few weeks...

1. A really fun-filled trip to Vancouver that, to name a few, included

  • Stay in a five-start waterfront hotel
  • Looking at tiny cars and crossroads from the hotel room in the 18th floor
  • Falling asleep looking at city skyline
  • Waking 2 minutes in the morning to see waterfront
  • Wondering why the Starbucks girl gave a chai latte with extra syrup when I asked for a simple latte...
  • Having fun in snow for hours
  • Cribbing about Seattle rain as soon as Sun is spotted in Vancouver
  • Asking waiter at the Tropika if water bottle is free of charge
  • Wondering why there is a flashing green signal in Canada
  • Buying a jacket on Robson street
  • Driving an hour to reach Jyothi Sweets, waiting 15 minutes before getting jalebi and chai, and enjoying warm jalebi after years...
  • Walking on the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge ( it is free :):):))
  • Clicking and posing forcountless pictures
  • Remember the honk in front of the hotel.. DCs...
2. A hectic move: Though the new place just 4 houses away from the old one, a move is a move- it is hectic.

3. Getting early morning calls from NOC for three cnescutive days and having to drive to office in the weekend. Spending 400 daytime minutes on office conference calls... By design, LSs...

4. So many movies watched:
  • 'The Prestige' ***
  • 'When a stranger calls' **
  • 'Dhoom 2' **
  • 'Pokiri' **
  • 'Superman returns' **
  • 'Anjali' ****
  • 'Vivah' *
  • 'Roja' ****
  • 'The Departed' ***
  • 'Casion Royale' ***
  • 'Happy Feet' ***
  • 'Cars' ****
I am sure I missed many others...

5. Mixed feelings about Seahawks losses to MIN/KC/SFO, and wins against OAK/STL/DEN.

Don: the chase begins again

So lot of "critics"(read dumb rediff reviewers) rated the movie as a bad one... but was the movie really that bad?

When I went to see the movie :
1. I wasn't expecting too much new stuff in the movie.
2. I knew it was not made to be sent for oscars or to get lot of critical acclaim...
3. I was just looking for timepass/masala.

What I found/did:
1. The original 'Don' was a movie filled with 'filmy' scenes.. and so was this one.
2. I did not try to compare this one to the original. If somebody really wants to compare heroes and thinks shah rukh is big '-', then priyanka is a big '+'. :)
Remember the first one: When Jasjit(Pran) gets out of the jail, he walks past Deepu & Munni's school; and when Vijay hides in Pran's house, that house is also located in the same gully as the jail.... so jail/house/school all within 100 feet of each other... what a colony.. ekdam filmy :)
And for the latest one: I keep hearing that Shah rukh couldn't act serious like Amitabh.. it is just by design...
My point is: both movies are equally fun... so just stop being a critic and watch it for timepass... and you'll enjoy it.
3. And some really energetic dance numbers- I thought Shah rukh's dance in 'khaike paan bane ras wala' is almost as good as Chiranjeevi's dance :)

What could have been better:
Shah rukh's acting in some patches. To make up for that, he put in so much energy into dances.

And as soon as I can, I want to get a Don kind-of shirt and tie combo, when US retailers start selling my size shirts :)

Tom & Jerry

Thankfully Cartoon Network has moved "Tom & Jerry" to 8.30 a.m., about the time my alarm goes off. Getting out of sleep, siwtching on tv and start watching Tom&Jerry and start laughing- all happens in next 2 minutes.

Today one of my favorite episodes with Tom, Jerry, Spike(Bulldog) and Tyke(Spike's son) was the first one on air.
One fine day, Spike decides that it is time to teach his son three simple things in life:
1. A dog otta be a man's best friend. Dog has to make all kinds of faces to get a man's attention..dot dot dot
2. Dogs have to find bones and hide them.
Tyke asks why??
Spike says "I don't know, our fathers and grand fathers have done that and we're supposed to do that. Whenever you find a bone, you dig a hole and hide it. That's all".
3. Dogs have to chase cats. So Spike catches Tom-the cat and threatens him that he act scared whenever Tyke bowbows.

How simple is life for cartoons :)

Why doesn't coffee help during work time???

Why is that:

Having tea or coffee anytime after 7 pm keeps me awake till 1-2 in the midnight?

And during office hours neither of them help me even completely reading a paragraph. Why? Why? Why?

Why do I feel so sleepy from 3-7 pm?? If this were to be my time to goto bed, I am not sure I can sleep better even in east coast time zone or Carrebian timezone, but maybe in mid-Atlantic timezone ...

Waiting for the Football season to start

We all love sports- at least most of the sports. I beleive this is true about most of the guys- we all take so much pride and joy in supporting our local teams, let it be our country's cricket team(Indian of course) or our city's NFL team(Go Seahawks!) or our Basketball team(Go Sonics!).

I can't easily put into words how I felt after the Indian loss in the final of World Cup 2003 and unfair loss handed to Seahawks by referees in Super Bowl XL. On both those unfortunate occassions, I felt so terrible that I just could not goto school/office the next day. It literally took days for me to get over that feeling.

And now after a long off-season, when life was filled with tough school and office schedule, and a lovely summer, another season of Football is here and I just hope that Seahawks live upto my expectations. For now, all I wish and hope is Seahawks get the division championoship. Let's see what the season has in store for the hawks.

With all that excitement, I can't wait anymore for the Football Sundays.

GO HAWKS!!

Don - The Chase Begins Again

After a series of promising teaser promos, finally the music of "Don - The Chase Begins Again" is now on the web. So here go my views:
"Aaj Ki Raat"- Alisha Chinoy, after reviving her singing career with "khajra re", seems to be back in bollywood. The song has nice music.
"Khaike Paan banaraswala" - AFAIK, this probably is the first song where Shahrukh lent his voice and it was not bad. I think it was a good effort by him.
"Main Hoon Don" by Shaan was okay too. It was a plain copy of the old song with some good music.
"Maurya Re"- I personally dislike Shankar Mahadevan, especially singing with high pitch, this one seems to one of those songs where he was not over-excited. The song is just about average.
"Ye Mera Dil"- It might be coincidence or not but somehow I think this song starts with a tone similar to that in"Don't Phunk With My Heart" of Black Eyed Peas. Nevertheless, the song was as good as the original in orginal Don.
What I didn't really like is that the album has 3 instrumentals/remixes, which is boring for me. One of them- "Don revisited" has a new funny and jhinchak line in it: "Don ke dushman ki sabsi badee galathi yeh hain ki woh Don ka dushman hain" :)
Overall, I liked the music, and yes - they're the songs playing in my car deck now.

My first blog

This is my first blog. So don't have much to write here now...
